Travelling to Taipei may be off the menu at present, but you can certainly take your tastebuds there!  Dining out in Ashburton has just gone up a couple of notches, with the launch of an exciting new menu, and an all-new afternoon High Tea offering at Formosa.

Formosa merges the best of Asian cuisine into one delicious menu with new ingredient combinations and flavour sensations including small plates, big plates, soups, wok creations and desserts.

Highlights on the new menu include Gua Bao Roast Duck, Stir Fried Pancake with Vege in Soy Sauce and Sesame Oil Pork Casserole.  It’s a tough call, to decide between much-loved favourites and these sensational new dishes, but luckily, meals are served family style, just like you would at home, so you can try a little of everything and share this fabulous dining experience. The open kitchen allows you to watch the creation of your meal, so it’s a unique dining experience.

Formosa’s Head Chef Don Chen tells me that the biggest change has been to the wok menu. “We’ve focussed a little more attention on the wok, as it’s so popular,” he says. “The high temperature of 600°F means the food is sautéed to perfection and retains all its freshness, flavour and texture.”

Leave room for dessert! The Apple – white chocolate cheesecake with apple filling, and Strawberry cream cake are two new additions that look and taste deliciously wicked.

A fabulous variety of dishes are also available to order online or takeaway, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. Formosa will also deliver, so you can enjoy the new menu, even in isolation.

The eyes feast first…. …then comes the collision with your taste buds.

When it comes to creating food with eye appeal, nobody does it better than the team at Formosa. Their stunning desserts and High Teas are no exception.

“Our High Teas are making a come-back,” says chef Don. “People are rediscovering the small pleasures and an afternoon enjoying bubbles or a cocktail and an elegant High Tea is simple, but quite special.”

Formosa’s High Tea is, as you’d expect, bursting with colour, freshness, texture and flavour.

Their delicious, ever-changing sweet and savoury chef creations are all house-made and include a mouth-watering selection of savoury treats, followed by a truly decadent array of sweet temptations.

High Tea at Formosa is perfect for enjoying the company of friends and ideal for special occasions like birthdays, proposals, anniversaries and more. It’s also a lovely way to end the week – a small supper is also available, so it’s great for after-school early dinners in these colder months.  Bookings essential.
